Description

Hazard Studio orchestrated the restoration of the Pallice Palace, a former port building in La Rochelle, transforming it into a concept club designed around four distinct entities. In the Nef, the original steel structures have been deliberately preserved as a common thread between industrial heritage and contemporary uses, while three bars punctuate the space and carefully selected lighting fixtures create pockets of intimacy. Upstairs, a Saint Laurent marble bar stands as the centrepiece, facing a communal table that offers panoramic views over the entire venue. Set back, the Patio provides a different sanctuary: minimalist, open to the light, vibrant by day and intimate by night, making the Pallice Palace much more than just a destination.

The Pallice Palace project revolves around its four entities, sometimes built, sometimes open to the void. The hall benefited from a restoration faithful to its past, with stone walls carefully restored using traditional methods. We chose to keep the metal frameworks of the structure visible, as a common thread between industrial heritage and contemporary uses.

A true central axis, the Nave concentrates the soul of the project. Here, the port's past is expressed in a masterful volume, sensitively restored.

In this volume, the convivial focal points structure the main space, characterised by the three bars that pace the area. The selection of pendant lights by Hazard Studio softens the raw rigour of the building, creating intimate zones where each bar asserts its own identity. The subtly crafted lighting guides the flow and enhances the warm feeling of hospitality.

The Nave displays its full power first on the ground floor. A spectacular volume, flooded with zenithal light, designed to adapt to the most varied uses.

Upstairs, the Saint Laurent marble bar stands as a masterpiece at the top of the double staircases. Its polished finish catches the light, creating a dialogue with the raw strength of the space. Opposite, a communal table offers a panoramic view over the entire volume, inviting contemplation.

Away from the bustle, the Patio’s open-plan design invites you to slow down; at the heart of this space, the 25-metre lap pool traces a discreet line, bordered by an outdoor bar that opens up to the light. Conceived as a breath of fresh air, this spot captivates with its minimalist architecture.

Because every detail is taken into consideration, we have chosen superb handcrafted woven lampshades to elevate the space. The result is a unique atmosphere where the sunlight casts elegant shadows onto the terrace while the wind brings a subtle movement above the patio.

By day, it is an open, lively space, but as the light fades, the Patio changes its face; in the evening, it becomes cosy, wrapped in a warm, almost timeless atmosphere.

Outside, there are bustling, lively areas, full of movement, and then there is this space, set slightly back, designed to slow down, sit, and chat. A soft and simple atmosphere, like a peaceful haven in the heart of the place.
