Description

In the heart of the Marais, Hazard Studio has designed Mousse, a coffee shop with a vibrant pink facade where raw concrete, lime-washed walls, exposed brick, and herringbone parquet flooring create a warm and bold atmosphere. The curve, the guiding thread of the design, structures the space from the central counter to the sinuous light fixtures and the semi-circular arched shelves, while an unexpected gem hides at the back: toilets entirely covered in faceted mirrors, buzzing with a disco vibe. Hybrid and lively, Mousse also houses a secret hair salon nestled at the back, making this place much more than just a simple cafe.

At the heart of the historic Marais district, one of the most iconic in Paris, this original and singular concept comes to life, entirely designed and orchestrated by the Hazard Studio agency.

Its vibrant pink facade, with its terrace always buzzing with people, catches our eye as we stroll along the Rue des Archives. From the outside, you can already sense the warm light emanating from within, the result of flexible light fixtures hung in sinuous shapes above the counter.

This concrete counter emerges in the centre of the space, structuring it and defining the customer area and the team's workspace. Its curved shapes, massive appearance and the raw, irregular texture of the concrete bring character to the cafe's main space.

Added to the texture of the cement are those of the lime-finished walls, the reclaimed exposed brick from the original wall, and the wooden parquet laid in a herringbone pattern. This dialogue of textures creates a stimulating, warm atmosphere with a strong character.

In terms of geometry, the curve is a key element, as it appears in the semi-circular arched shelving modules with mirrored backs, matching the full-length mirrors on the wall, in the lines of the counter and in the light fixtures themselves.

To top off this experience, the crown jewel of the project is revealed in its toilets which, far from being just a functional room, are transformed into a truly immersive experience at the heart of a disco ball, where every surface is covered in mirrors and disco music transports us straight back to the 70s.

Mousse is a rich and lively project, where the architecture is completed by the way people use it and where the curve envelops the user. This hybrid project adds an extra touch by pairing this café with a secret hair salon tucked away at the back.
